Graston Fascial Indentation

Graston Fascial Indentation

This picture is from a patient I treated a while back. She came to see me for ankle pains stemming from a prior ankle sprain. She had already done several wees of physical therapy with no improvement in her pain level. When I asked her if they addressed any of the muscles in her lower leg she said that the rehab only focused on the ankle proper. Throughout my treatments I addressed her ankle deep flexors and extensors which were extremely tender to palpation with multiple trigger points. I also did Graston on her ankle and lower leg and as I began the treatment I noticed a pattern begin to come out in her skin. I asked her if she had worn an ankle brace recently and she told me she hadn’t worn one in weeks. The imprint of the brace had left marks in her fascia. I firmly believe that these fascial imprints considerably delay proper healing of chronic injuries. After several treatments her ankle pain had decreased markedly and several weeks after her initial visit she had improved to a point well beyond her prescribed rehab had accomplished.
